What this tool does

Image to WebP converts a JPEG, PNG, or other image into the WebP format, which typically produces a much smaller file at similar visual quality. Conversion happens entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server.

How it works

  1. Choose Image — pick a file from your device, or drag and drop it onto the panel.
  2. Quality — adjust the slider to trade off file size against visual quality. Lower values compress harder and shrink the file more; higher values preserve more detail.
  3. Compare — the original and the converted WebP appear side by side, each with its resulting file size, so you can see the savings before downloading.
  4. Download .webp — saves the converted image to your device.
  5. Reset — clears the current image so you can convert another one.

Good to know

  • Conversion uses the browser's built-in canvas encoder, so quality and compression match what your browser natively supports for WebP.
  • The quality slider only affects lossy compression; it has less effect on images that are mostly flat color.
  • Works with common source formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF (first frame), BMP, and existing WebP files.
